Job Description
Title: Family Nurse Practitioner Supervisor: Clinical Director

Minimum Qualifications:

Current license as a Registered Nurse in North Carolina
Certification by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners National Certification Board
Current Approval to Practice granted by the NC Board of Nursing OR meets qualifications for

Approval to Practice pending Physician Supervision requirement
Graduate degree in Nursing within the Family Nurse Practitioner Specialty

Job Classification: Category 1 – May have exposure to blood/infectious material

Job Expectations:

Competency in prenatal, postpartum, pediatric, adolescent, and adult primary care within the limits of the specialty.
Acceptance of several principles of community health care that include, but are not limited to the following: Commitment to the practice of health promotion and disease prevention, appropriate risk stratification, provision of trauma-informed and gender-affirming care, commitment to actively addressing health inequities and to providing safe spaces for marginalized people and communities.

Job Requirements:

  • Provides in-office care to primary care, wellness, lactation, gynecology, and child-bearing patients within the scope of a Family Nurse Practitioner utilizing the established Clinical Practice Guidelines within WBWC.
  • Performs medical examinations and evaluations, diagnoses, treatment, follow-up, consultation, and health education within the scope of a nurse practitioner.
  • Assists in developing, implementing and maintaining compliance with policies and procedures for the primary care, GYN, newborn, and lactation services as needed and requested.
  • Maintains compliance with AANP, AABC and all state and federal laws and regulations.
  • Assists with maintaining appropriate systems to assure quality patient care such as participation emergency skills drills and in-services; participates and utilizes quality management principles through weekly chart review.
  • Contributes to maintaining productive and positive working relationships with staff at WBWC, consulting physicians and with health care facilities and agencies. Serve as a resource to the clinic staff by participating in and providing contemporary in-service education that will facilitate in increasing teamwork and maintaining a comprehensive approach to the delivery of health care.
  • Coordinate clinical education experiences for nurse practitioner students and students of other health care disciplines
  • Provide an environment where students expand their clinical skills and gain a positive attitude regarding primary and women’s health care
  • Oversee client education, including review and update client forms annually
  • Provides health education to students, families, and/or community health practitioners and groups, within area of specialty as requested.
  • Serve as a consultant to outside agencies as assigned regarding APRNs.
  • Participates in selected local, state and national organizations that affect nurse practitioner’s practice (NCNA, and AABC).
  • Participates in activities designed to enhance public awareness of Women’s Birth & Wellness Center services.
  • Participates as part of a professional team by performing any other duties as assigned or needed.
