Primary Care Director
Summary
Under the general supervision of the Executive Director, the Primary Care Director is responsible for directing patient care in the clinic and overseeing the clinicians and clinical support staff to include: APNs, CMAs/MAs and nurses that work in the clinic
Qualification Requirements
Current license as a Registered Nurse in North Carolina Certification by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners National Certification Board. Approval to Practice pending Physician Supervision requirement Graduate degree in Nursing within the Family Nurse Practitioner Specialty.
Job Classification: Category 1 – May have exposure to blood/infectious material

Director Duties:
- Partner and collaborate with the Executive Director to build, grow, monitor and evaluate the existing primary care services at Women’s Birth and Wellness Center in alignment with the organization’s strategic plan
- In collaboration with the Executive Director, manage the primary care service in a fiscally sound way, in keeping with the budget and striving to avoid deficiencies
- Collaborate with Executive Director in the development and administration of the annual budget
- In collaboration with the Human Resources Manager and other applicable management personnel; hire, orient, evaluate, supervise, discipline and dismiss clinical staff within areas of responsibility
- Perform annual reviews for designated clinical staff in collaboration with the Human Resources Manager in areas of responsibility utilizing established metrics
- Provides clinical direction and clinical administration including, but not limited to, developing clinical practice guidelines, provider schedules and maintaining clinic schedules.
- Oversee, develop and maintain revisions of clinic protocols, policies and procedures for the primary care service.
- Supervision of clinic providers
- Setting and performing primary care quality assurance activities (CQI)
- Participating in and directing provider team meetings and ensuring appropriate safety training and skills drill
- In partnership with the billing office ensure ongoing, annual and as needed coding and billing training of all clinical staff within areas of responsibility
- Work in partnership with the billing office to ensure timely coding and billing functions of all clinicians within areas of responsibility to include: birthing service, lactation service and laboratory service
- Oversee development of new clinical programs and lines of service within areas of responsibility and provides input on new clinical programs and service line proposals for WBWC
- Coordinate clinical education experiences for nurse practitioner students and students of other health care disciplines
- Provide an environment where students expand their clinical skills and gain a positive attitude regarding primary and women’s health care
- Establishing linkage with community referral entities, social support resources to improve and expand the scope of services available through community referrals
- In collaboration with the Midwifery Director, participate in UNC Family Medicine and OB Department meetings, as invited
- In partnership with Executive Director work to increase patient access to primary care services
- Establishes positive relationships with internal and local medical community
- Attends local medical society functions and meetings

Clinical Job Requirements
- Maintains a regular clinic schedule providing in-office primary care services within the scope of a Family Nurse Practitioner utilizing established Clinical Practice Guidelines within WBWC.
- Performs medical examinations and evaluations, diagnoses, treatment, follow-up, consultation, and health education within the scope of a nurse practitioner.
- Maintains compliance with AANP, AABC and all state and federal laws and regulations.
- Oversee client education, including review and update client forms annually
- Serve as a consultant to outside agencies regarding APRNs.
- Participates in local, state and national organizations that affect nurse practitioner’s practice (NCNA, and AABC).
- Participates in activities designed to enhance public awareness of Women’s Birth & Wellness Center services.
- Participates as part of a professional team by performing any other duties as assigned or needed.
- Contribute to a positive work environment by following through on tasks, taking initiative, working with the team and identifying solutions.
