Title: Clinic Medical Assistant
Supervisors: Clinical Operations Manager, Clinic Nurse
Job Classification: Category 1 – May have exposure to blood/infectious material.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School Graduate
- Three years of experience in healthcare setting or equivalent education and experience
- Phlebotomist Certification
- Experience with obtaining ECG readings
- graduate from a medical assistant program & certified medical assistant certification preferred
Job Requirements:
- Arrives at least 30 mins prior to the first patient of the day, ensuring lights are on, clinic ambient temperature is appropriate and exam rooms are fully stocked
- Calls patients from waiting area and escorts them to the appropriate exam room
- Obtains and records patient’s vital signs, and documents reason for visit on the EHR
- Assists provider during visit as needed, anticipating their needs
- Prepares and sets up supplies and equipment in the exam room according to the patient’s needs
- Performs and documents laboratory test results including pregnancy, urinalysis, Hgb, blood glucose, hemoccult, microalbumin, throat and urine cultures per Clinical Practice Guidelines or at provider’s request
- Obtains, labels, packages and disposes of specimens per lab protocol.
- Sets up and assists with sterile procedures.
- Performs advanced laboratory skills such as reading PPD skin tests, and performs phlebotomy as needed
- Administers immunizations and other medications as designated via oral, subcutaneous, intradermal and intramuscular routes, as appropriate
- Assists Clinic RN with patient follow up, as needed
- Inventories clinic medication and sample closet
- Cleans examination rooms in between patients and daily according to OSHA guidelines. Restocks exam rooms as needed
- Cleans and sterilizes instruments according to sterilization protocol
- Conducts lab quality tests and daily records data in log book to insure quality assurance for laboratory accreditation. Performs QA on various tests such as urinalysis, pregnancy and on glucometer and hemoglobinometer. Includes refrigerator/freezer.
- Supervises use and condition of instruments and supplies including, but not limited to: blood glucose monitor, hemocue, centrifuge, autoclave, sphygmomanometer, thermometers, stethoscopes and scales
- Assists in closing the office each day, ensuring rooms and instruments are clean and prepared for the next clinic day and that clinic and building are secure
- Maintains emergency skills, including CPR. Maintains compliance with OSHA and HIPAA regulations and Fire Code
