Tracey Jones, CNA

Lab Assistant

Born in New Jersey, Tracey has lived in Alaska and South Carolina before making North Carolina her home in 2000. First earning a degree in Special Education, she taught for several years in different states before coming to the WBWC in 2012. Her medical work was as a CNA in pediatrics and maternal health in Durham. Currently as a lab assistant, Tracey enjoys the interaction with the women and their families that come through our Center.


Latasha Jordan

Front Desk Manager

Latasha was born and raised in central New Jersey, but moved to Durham and is proud to call North Carolina home. She has years of experience in customer service and as an administrative professional. Latasha has a B.S. Degree in Organizational Management from Saint Augustine’s University in Raleigh. Prior to working at WBWC, Latasha worked as an Administrative Assistant and Peer Mentor Advisor for another nonprofit. There she developed a passion for helping young adults develop life skills and define career aspiration. When she is not at work, Latasha volunteers with the Volunteer Center of Durham. She is also in the process of developing her own web-based Organizational Life Coaching Service for individuals who need help organizing, planning, identifying, and balancing life’s obstacles.


Sofia Z. Marks

Director of Administrative Services

Sofia Marks began working at Women’s Birth & Wellness Center as our Bilingual Administrative Assistant in February of 2010. She is originally from Santa Barbara, CA where she earned her Associate’s Degree in psychology from Santa Barbara Community College. Prior to working at WBWC, Sofia worked as a Job Coach at another non-profit, Goodwill Industries of Southern Nevada. In addition to assisting the front deck, Sofia also handles provider credentialing, patient medical record requests, Strong Start Peer Counseling, and is a notary public in the state of North Carolina. Being a mother of three daughters, her favorite part of working at WBWC is getting to hold newborn babies. Once her daughters have left the nest, Sofia plans on completely her BA in Sociology.


Emily Lane

Front Desk Coordinator

Born in Portland, Maine, Emily’s family moved to Chapel Hill when she was five years old. Emily holds a B.A. in Psychology from UNC-Chapel Hill and a B.S. in Health Services Management from East Carolina University. Emily’s extensive knowledge of customer service was gained through her 11 years experience employed locally at Brixx Wood-Fired Pizza. All of her immediate family members have careers in healthcare so Emily knew from an early age that she wanted to continue the family tradition.  She plans to continue her education by pursuing a master’s degree in Health Information Management at UNC-Chapel Hill. Emily’s favorite part of working at WBWC is learning more about women’s health/pregnancy and seeing all of the beautiful babies.

George Higgins

Medical Billing Specialist

George joined the Women’s Birth and Wellness Center in March 2016. A veteran of the United States Air Force, this former military medic was trained in obstetrics and worked with midwives during his tour of duty at Royal Air Force Base (RAF) Lakenheath Hospital in the United Kingdom. He eventually went on to manage the Newborn Nursery. This guy could once bottle-feed and change the diapers of 15 newborns and get their vital signs in one 12-hour shift. He ended his tour of duty at RAF Lakenheath as manager of OB/GYN Clinic. Shortly after arriving stateside, George left the Air Force and with college money in hand, enrolled at Arizona State University where he graduated with Honors with a degree in Finance. After working with assisted living and home health organizations, George is proud to join the WBWC team.
